Harry Potter

It’s not a novel, but Harry Potter fans aren’t particularly picky at this point. We just want to tap in on the mania once again, if only for these celebratory launch days and anniversaries.

So, what’s the big deal? Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play, based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. The latest adaptation — in two parts — allows us to follow the continuing saga of Harry Potter — 19 years have elapsed, and the boy magician is now married with children. He also works for the Ministry of Magic (big surprise?).

Another Premier!

The Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play premiers in London’s West End on July 30, 2016. The launch parties celebrate the ever-more-anticipated script for the play. And, we don’t have to try very hard to imagine the lines that will quickly form (as well as the costumes that will quickly be brought out of retirement).

Here are more details for parties in your area (and around the world):

  • Fairfield Release Party: Festivities will begin at 7 p.m. at the Fairfield Public Library, followed at 9 with events a short distance away at the Fairfield University Bookstore.
  • Louisville Release Party: The Louisville Free Public Library, 301 York St., is hosting a magical release party for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
  • Oak Park Book Event: Co-owner Colleen Kammer says the Book Beat will have its annual sale with 20 percent off all books 10 a.m.-midnight, combined with the Harry Potter Party beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 30. There will be Harry Potter kids’ activities and the Hogwarts-trained John the magician will perform 9-10 p.m.

Do you plan to celebrate the launch party? Are you excited about this new chapter in Harry Potter’s story?
